What’s the difference between bookkeeping, tax accounting and CFO support?
Bookkeeping gives you current, reliable financial records. Your tax accountant handles tax returns and helps you develop effective tax strategies. CFO support uses financial information to help you plan, weigh up decisions and guide the business forward. We focus on the current and the future, while working alongside your tax accountant.
Not necessarily. Bookkeeping covers a wide range of financial recordkeeping work. A registered BAS agent has met the Tax Practitioners Board’s requirements for qualifications and experience and can provide BAS services within the scope of their registration. That matters when your business needs someone to prepare or lodge its BAS.
Yes. We do not prepare income tax returns. Your tax accountant remains important for your returns and effective tax strategies. We can work with them to make sure they receive the financial information they need.
Absolutely. We can agree on responsibilities, provide dependable records and work through questions together. You do not need to change accountants to work with us.
We work with both Xero and QuickBooks Online. We’ll look at how your current system is set up and whether it supports the way your business works.
Usually, no. We start with what you use now. If a change would genuinely help, we’ll explain the benefits, the work involved and your options before you decide.
Yes. A comprehensive health check helps us establish what needs attention and where to start. We can then recommend a practical pathway. We take on a limited number of major catch-up and cleanup projects at a time so we can give them the attention they require; a review is the first step in assessing what is needed.
You’ll have an agreed finance playbook and a clear checklist. Our workflow system sends requests and reminders for the documents or decisions we need, with as much of that process automated as makes sense. We aim to ask early, so you have time to respond without a last-minute scramble.
You’ll have a day-to-day point of contact who is your first port of call. You’ll also know the senior person responsible for your work. If a question needs more expertise or attention, there is a clear path to escalate it.
Our workflow manager keeps an eye on capacity and makes sure the work has coverage. We cross-pollinate knowledge across the team through shared processes and peer review, so your accounts do not depend on one person being available.
We combine AI assisted checks with human quality assurance. Experienced team members investigate unusual items, missing information and balances that need explanation. The exact reviews depend on the responsibilities and level of support agreed with you.
We agree on the review schedule as part of your engagement, based on what you need and the work we are responsible for. You’ll know what is checked and when to expect it.
Five useful starting points are your profit and loss, balance sheet, statement of cash flows, budget and rolling 13-week cash flow forecast. You do not need to arrive knowing how to read every one. We can help you understand what each tells you and which measures deserve your attention.
We’ll agree on a timetable and tell you what we need to meet it. Timely documents and approvals make timely reporting possible. If information arrives late, we’ll let you know what that means for delivery; work from clients who meet the agreed process can be completed on schedule.
Yes, where payroll is included in the agreed scope. We’ll first clarify your pay arrangements, approvals and who is responsible for confirming that contracts, awards and employee entitlements are correct. We can also help with Single Touch Payroll reporting and the payroll processes connected to payday super.
Yes. We can review completed work, carry out targeted quality checks and give your person access to senior bookkeepers for questions. Depending on what suits your team, that might include scheduled reviews or open office hours.
Yes. We can document the process, train your people, answer questions as they practise and review the results. The aim is for your team to take ownership with confidence, while retaining the level of oversight you need.
We look at what is practical and valuable for your business. You might have an office team member who can take on a task alongside other responsibilities, making an in-house approach more economical. We can adjust our role as your capability grows, rather than holding on to work your team is ready to do.
We use AI and automation to help organise work, reduce repetition and flag items needing attention. Experienced people remain responsible for checking the output, investigating exceptions and deciding what action to take. Human judgement stays at the apex.
Our team accesses approved systems through Practice Protect, which supports controlled access and an audit trail. We have team members in different locations, so we agree on roles and permissions carefully. We can explain who can access your records, how bank and payment permissions are handled, and which activities are managed onshore in Australia.
When the questions move beyond whether the books are right to what you should do next. Hiring, investment, cash needs and major growth decisions may call for deeper management accounting or CFO support. Because our teams work together, you can add that capability without starting the conversation from scratch.
